I am a self-made, self-taught photographer, web designer & educator living in the Pacific Northwest. I fell in love with photography (and, really, my own creativity) after borrowing my dad’s camera. Turns out when you do something you love, you want to do it all.the.time.
It’s hard to believe that my journey into entrepreneurship began in 2013. I’ve told my story before now but wanted to take the opportunity to go back to the beginning and how this business of mine has evolved and share the biggest lessons I’ve learned along the way.
I can’t begin to tell you how many times I’m asked, “So how did you get started with all this?!” And honestly? It’s hard to answer in one quick response so I felt it time to write an actual blog post on my own journey to becoming a web designer.
Can we have #realtalk that running a business is straight up HARD? It’s also amazing, but never easy. It’s a constant trial and error, fall down and get back up again sort of relationship. I have made so many decisions since opening my own business and some have been great, and others… not so much.
I talk a lot about organization because I love finding ways to get more organized in my own life and business. A pain point in my life before now was Google and my lack of grasp on “The Cloud”. My stuff was a mess and I had old emails that needed to be removed.
So here’s the thing, there are a lot of photographers out there. It’s not like you didn’t already know that. So many in fact, it can be overwhelming. I've said it before and I'll say it again though, I truly believe that you won't find your own success if you are constantly comparing yourself to others.
If you're wondering where this post is even coming from, I should set the foundation a bit and what all of this is even about! If you've followed me on social media for awhile now, you know that I've been on a health journey to change my life beyond so much more than a number on the scale.
I’m all about keeping things real and if you’ve been with me for a while now, you know I mean that! I think I held off on sharing these images because this trip is a little bittersweet for me as a business owner and as a human being in general and I’ll explain why below. I’ll try not to jump all over the place, but no promises!
Do you reconcile your bank accounts each month? I do, and here's what I've found… Remember when you signed up for that FREE trial for 30 days and then you know, life got busy and you totally forgot about it? Well, then that trial expired and you were suddenly being charged each month for the product.
DISCLAIMER: be prepared for a really long and probably sappy post, because as I write this post, I'm feeling all the feels. This post is going to be a bit more than sharing our most recent family portraits with the INCREDIBLE Lora Grady Photography…
Ahhh to be a creative... for the sake of this post I'm going to keep this post in the view of a photographer! Here's the deal: it doesn't matter HOW much you cost, the reality is that there will always be people who think your prices are too high for your services.
I've been on Instagram for as long as I can remember... long before I ever had a business. Instagram has always been a love, but I never really understood it until I did start my own business and the power of marketing myself online. It took me awhile to get the hang of it...
Alright, I'll be honest, talking about SEO is boring. Seriously, Search Engine Optimization? Doesn't that bring you back to that one course with the professor who had the most monotone voice that nearly put you to sleep every class? Perhaps, but trust me...
As a photographer, website designer, and educator, I have several facets of my business that require time and organization. When I found Honeybook, I knew that my life and business would completely change for the better, I just didn't know how much just yet!
I couldn't think of a better time to write this post while everything is fresh in my mind on what I've learned venturing into the world of wedding photography. I want to share five things I have learned that helped me not only become a better photographer...
