Dietrich Family

I grew up in Wenatchee, Washington and miss my hometown all the time! However, I have to admit that summers over there now are pretty frustrating with all the smoke that seems to be in full force by August. I just wrapped up a week in Eastern Washington and my goodness the smoke was brutal. We're now back home and even way down here on the coast near the ocean beaches we're experiencing significant smoke cover. It's just crazy and scary!

The ONLY thing I do like about the smoke is that it makes for some seriously beautiful and unique photographs!

When my best friends called me and asked if I would be able to squeeze them in for a family session while I was home I of course made it happen! This sweet family of three is about to be a family of four and I could not be more excited to welcome their newest addition into this world. They have decided to NOT find out what they're having until it's time and I love that! I don't think I'd have the ability to not know, haha!

I could write a novel on these two, their love, their story, and all the ways this woman has played such an impactful role in my own life but I'm just going to leave it at they are truly remarkable. Their love is real, pure, and oh so strong. They truly are a match made in heaven and I love the life they've made for themselves and their family. Little miss Lila is the absolute sweetest thing and I had #allthefeels watching her and Riley play together during our time together! It was BEYOND cute and you'll see some of those photos here on this post!

Something NOT so awesome happened during our session...

To make it short and sweet... in the middle of our session my Canon 5d Mark IV completely detached from my camera strap, bounced on the dock, and fell in the lake. I think I dropped a few f bombs but can't even remember. I just remember hitting the dock on my hands and knees and holding my face thinking "What the hell just happened?!" A sweet neighbor came over and quickly dove in to grab my camera. Luckily, the CF card read all the images up to that point and I was able to finish the session on my backup Mark III. Ahhhh... but there in about 2 seconds went about $5,000 worth of equipment. Luckily, I am INSURED! Haha. Business tip: COVER YOURSELF! ALWAYS! I've already submitted my claim, replaced the camera and lens and the whole process has been super smooth. I just can't believe it happened but I count my stars that I do have good insurance and that I pay each year to protect myself.

I still can't believe it happened, but it's another example of LIFE. Sometimes we are thrown for curveballs and have to adjust and improvise. Because I was insured I wasn't even worried about the camera or lens when it hit the lake, I was worried about the images. I'm so grateful they were able to be retreived and because I am a professional, I had all my gear with me and was able to finish the session and back everything up while I was there. Yikes.

Anyway, I hope you love these MAGICAL photos on Lake Chelan with the most epic smoke filled backdrop!

I can't wait to snuggle this little babe when he or she comes into this world OH SO SOON! Love you guys!
