I talk a lot about self care and self love and I believe that the only way to take care of the people around us is to start by taking care of ourselves. This was something I tried to accomplish in my life but somehow always fell short because I was never actually taking care of me. My routines have become a blessing in my life and have helped me truly achieve happiness in my personal and professional life.

I want to share five things with you today that I’m actively doing RIGHT NOW to take care of me! I have also launched my brand new FREE 30 day wellness challenge!

1. I’m giving myself permission to be alone (and to enjoy it.)

When is the last time you had some quality alone time? Something I’m doing is making sure my kindle is always in my bag and sitting down somewhere to just read (in public.) This has become my happy place. I don’t mean just enjoying a few minutes here and there in the car alone… I mean really setting time to do something alone for an extended period of time. I love to go shopping by myself, go to a movie, get a pedicure or simply sit somewhere quiet and just be. This doesn’t have to be out in public either… I urge you to start sitting alone somewhere quiet/cozy in your home and just embrace the quiet. I like to do this in the morning with my cup of coffee before my household is even stirring. I’ve become a morning person over the past year waking up almost every day before 6 and it’s been one of the biggest self care moves in my life! Try it and see how you feel!

2. Continuing to exercise the word, “no.”

No is such a simple word, but it really holds so much weight. Part of putting my own needs first has meant that I have to say no. I’ve cut toxic relationships from my life and no longer go to every single event because I feel like I have to be there. A polite decline will go so far and it’s more than allowed. Embrace it and try it!

3. Going to bed at a decent hour.

We’ve had a bit of an issue in our household with our toddler… aka, she wants to go to bed with us every night. Sometimes she sleeps in her bed, but always finds her way upstairs at some point. While this hasn’t been the easiest thing in the world, it has honestly forced me some nights to just give in and go to bed (at 8 pm usually). Oh my goodness, such a treat! When I go to bed at 8, popping out at 4:30 or 5 to head downstairs is so much easier and I’m WAY more productive in the mornings with my work anyway.

Getting myself on a better sleep schedule has been so important and I can tell how much of a difference it’s made for me physically and emotionally. I do NOT do well with lack of sleep, just ask my husband. So get your zzz’s. I also urge you to put your phone on do not disturb at night… #gamechanger.

4. Spending more time with people I love.

Girls nights?! Yes, please! I used to feel guilty spending time out of the house playing but then I realized I never do it enough and it was something really missing in my life. Sure, I chat with my friends on the phone and social media, but there is nothing like actually getting together with your friends for some quality time. I’ve made a point in my life now to get together with people I love spending time with on a regular basis.

Just the other night I planned on walking down to the gym to watch a volleyball match at the HS and totally last minute I texted two of my girlfriends and they came right over to join me! I could have sat at that game by myself with Riley, but instead they came with me and it was so much fun.

I’m also doing more of this with my husband, too. We get in weird ruts through different seasons (hunting, cough cough), and it’s hard! So in this season, we’re actively trying to spend more quality time together and even though sometimes it’s hard to plan it out, when we do, we are so much happier.

5. Keeping my exercise routine at the top of the priority list.

If you’ve been with me this past year, you know how important my workouts are to me. I believe in the power of endorphins and how exercise truly is the gateway to happiness. It was always the missing piece for me before I started #myfighttofeelbetter. I was on the verge of obesity and miserable. My workouts are my priority above all else and sometimes I have to miss out on certain things because if I go do xx, I might miss my window to get it done. Awhile back I simply ran out of excuses. These excuses that held me back from my full potential. So drop the excuses because only YOU can truly take care of you. Working out is hard and if it were easy, everyone would be healthy and active. You simply have to show up, get it done, and reap the benefits of how you’ll feel afterward because that feeling ALWAYS makes it worth it for me!

Are you ready to take it a step (or 30) further?

I’ve put together a 30 day WELLNESS CHALLENGE just for you my friend! I’ve put together 30 things I do in my own life to challenge others to start practicing self care in many different forms. You will hear from me every single day for 30 days straight so before signing up, make sure you’re okay with that! You’ll get an email from me each morning at 5 AM with the challenge for the day. They are ALL possible, you just have to be willing to try.

The only way I’ve been successful on my journey thus far is I stopped making excuses and I started showing up for myself. Part of that meant I had to stop breaking promises to myself. If you sign up for this challenge, I can’t do it for you. You have to be the one willing to try and to not give up. Are you ready?! Sign up below to get started!
